Abstract
[Common Knowledge of Factors Influencing Memory in the Context of Eyewitness Testimony]
This article presents the results of a survey where we compare the knowledge of two categories of persons about factors influencing human memory: Researchers in experimental psychology, non specialists (students in psychology, students in law and professional lawyers). Those factors, well known in the study of memory, were embedded in situations inspired by typical experiments of eyewitness testimony research. The introduction discusses the place that can be given to this survey and to the others already realised (e g., Deffenbacher & Loftus, 1982; Noon & Hollin, 1987) in the debate about the utility of eyewitness testimony psychology. In the conclusion, some ways of collaboration between psychologists and lawyers are suggested.
