Abstract
Flemish adolescents and their parents were asked to rankorder sets of terminal and instrumental values according to importance. By applying seriation methods to the paired comparison matrices derived from the ranking data, it was found that both the terminal and the instrumental values were hierarchically organized and that there was a striking similarity between the value hierarchies of the adolescents and the parents.
